Geodon and Depakote

back, upper arms, palm of left hand, cuticles, stomach... has anyone had any experiences with Geodon and Depakote? I have been on them for two weeks. Just got off Zoloft which I have been on for years. I was just getting worse and worse so I decided to try someone other than my general physician. The psyche said I should never have been on Zoloft.

I have not been on those. I take Celexa for depression and Trazodone for sleep, but I don't take either of these for my picking issue. Are you seeing a therapist to help you deal with the compulsion to pick and learn other coping skills to use for anxiety in place of picking?

Cindy Darkheart bloodsighs.wordpress.com Depression has always been the primary issue. Used to be on prozac and trazadone. I stopped therapy because after so many years its like.what's the use. The picking has reemerged threefold the last two years

Cindy - Geodon and Depakote for depression as the main issue doesn't make sense. Those drugs are commonly used in Bipolar Disorder and sometimes Schizophrenia. You mentioned depression with anxiety and mania, but those are all separate issues. Mania is only present in Bipolar disorders and anxiety is a completely different class of issues than depression in the DSM. I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar as an adolescent and gained about 30 lbs. on Depakote, I hated that drug, but everyone tolerates things differently. Did you mention that your regular doctor is prescribing these drugs, not a psychiatrist? That is very scary if so... perhaps they should consider a medication for you that addresses anxiety or compulsions. Luvox has worked great for me for the last few years, it's not 100%, but makes things much more manageable. Best of luck!

Wow..now I am kinda scared. My regular doctor is the one who had me on the zoloft. It may have been helpful in the beginning but not for the last two years. I finally went to a psychiatrist a month ago and he is the one who put me on Geodon and Depakote and told me I had depression, anxiety, and mania. That doctor is leaving the practice and on 01/31/11 I go see a different doctor. I don't know what to think now. I had my second visit and told him I was doing better, but I now I am concerned about this diagnosis thing. Thanks for the info! sigh....

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you! Anxiety/OCD meds can usually be combined with mood stablizers like Geodon and Depakote, so if those are working for you then may as well give them some time and just ask about your symptoms that are not being helped by them. Glad you are getting a second opinion, seems to always be a good idea with tricky stuff like this.

i was diagnosed with depression, panic anxiety, ocd and aggrobhobia the doctor put me on zoloft how is it? coz of my panic anxiety i refuse to take medications so it makes it hard for me to do anything other then cognitive therapy which doesnt really help so could you tell me a bit about zoloft and why your changing it after being on it for so long?

bloodsighs.wordpress.com......In the mid 90s to about 3 years ago my problems were all rooted in depression. I had no anxiety issue and I don't know what triggered the change. I noticed I was nervous and anxious all the time and felt like people were looking at me so I started going out and running errands at like 7 in the morning so I would be around fewer people. It began to feel safe i my apartment and I would take time off work just to enjoy being inside away from people. My doctor put me on zoloft, which seemed to help a little. I have always used SI to cope and I did mention it to my general physician and his answer was to increase the dosage of zoloft, which I continued to take religiously. I had no problems other than weight gain. The reason I went to an actual shrink instead of my primary care physician is that my SI frequency was increasing, the deepness of my wounds increased, and I got some kind of thrill from seeing the blood. Everyone is different, but I can honestly say I do notice a difference in just this past month on my new meds that I never saw with years of using Zoloft. My diagnosis is Depression with Anxiety and Mania. Be Well
