How to stop without professional Help
im a freshman in highschool, and i just found out about this disease. ive been picking my acne on my arms, shoulders and back for the past year now. Im not sure if i really do have dermatillionmania. like i want to stop picking casue im ashamded of it and am constanly trying to hide it. but i cant get professional help because of what my family might say and other things. im just not sure how i can stop on my own though?

The longer you wait, the harder it will be to stop. Please get help now before you are 31 like I am and still picking. If you had told me when I was in high school that I would still be doing this at my age, I would have been appalled.
Can you make an appointment with a school counselor? Do you have any mature, trusted friends?

What is more embarrassing...telling your parents you would like to see a counselor or going to the beach with your friends and they all see your scars?
