Best Scar Treatment? Please?

I have been trying so hard lately not to pick at the ingrown hairs on my legs... and I've FINALLY made headway. The scabs are healing, but now instead of the red scabs I have dark purple marks. I work with children, who unfortunately are not shy when it comes to pointing out flaws. As it gets hotter and hotter, I'm dreading when I'll run out of excuses for not wearing shorts. Anyway, what have you all used to treat scars left behind that has actually produced significant results over time (no laser or microdermabrasion options please)? I've been researching online, but it is so hard to find honest product reviews with all of these people being paid to give positive reviews. Please help. I'm looking for any relief... :(
