Make-Up
Hi Everyone,
I have been really down recently and have been really unkind to my skin. I wanted to know if any of you use make-up to cover and hide the damage you've caused. I never leave the house without a full face of make-up, which I know isn't good for my skin but it's the only way I can face anyone! I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any products or even make-up tips, as I don't seem to be able to hide spots and scabs very well. I have heard double wear foundation is good, but I really don't want it to break me out, as this would cause me to pick even more.
Thanks in advance.
I can totally relate to you. I have always been trying out different makeup and creams to help "fix" my face. I am hopefully now on the right track to healing. (I have just started the program.) I used to use clinique acne solutions foundation and powder. It was good coverage by I found it to look to fake. Now I use It cosmetics CC cream. I apply it with a blender sponge and then sometimes use the It cosmetics celebration powder. Also I should note I always use primer before makeup and also use DERMABLEND Smooth Indulgence Redness Concealer after the primer sets. Then I apply the cc cream. My goal is to be comfortable leaving the house without makeup but I fear that is long shot as I as lots of discoloration/scars from picking. What makeup are you using? What other products have you found helpful? I have fair/dry skin.
Hi Amy19587,
Thank you for replying to the thread :) See I never have used a CC cream, but am thinking I should. Unlike you have oily skin although really fair too, so I try and use less products because I think it will just become oily and horrible. I also use my fingers to apply my foundation, which is Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid in Ivory, but even that is a bit orangey and that's another reason I am thinking of changing. Do you not waste some of the product on the sponge, that's what I am worried about if I ever buy an expensive foundation it will just get soaked up. That is my number one goal too and I will be so over the moon if I ever managed to leave the house with no make-up and to feel confident! Sometimes, I know it's crazy, I use Anusol, which is really for haemorrhoids, but I read somewhere it takes the redness out of discoloured skin from picking. I tend not to use this when the skin is not healed as it is greasey, but when you just have red patches in makes them less noticeable. I actually bought some Revlon colorstay over the weekend, but am frightened it will break me out! :( xx

I do feel the price is worth it. I know it may be hard but go to a makeup store and have them find the right shade. I always get super embarrassed though when I go cause then they will see all my face "issues" and then I have to listen to them try to persuade me to buy acne products...so frustrating...but I know I wouldn't be able to pick the right color. I have to admit my last time going to the store the lady didn't treat me any different and actually made me feel confident finding the right makeup.
Also I love using the sponge. It is works best for full coverage and it keeps my hands off my face which is key :)
Have you ever tried camomile lotion? I just started it a couple weeks ago. It is a bit drying but it may work better for you. It's cheap and a lot of people swear by it.
20 year picker here that has experimented with every kind of concealer/foundation on the market. My number one, would never give it up, is Estee Lauder double wear maximum cover. Its camouflage makeup that would cover up a tattoo. I don't use primer or foundation with it, just a thin layer, then second dabs applied with a brush. It's waterproof, lasts all day, and does not make my skin worse (thats what the picking is for). Covers up redness, scabs (as much as you can), and dark scars. Recommend getting a sample of it at estee lauder counter. Its pricey, but one tube lasts me at least 4 months, and a little goes a long way.
Hi Both, I have been really bad with my picking recently! I would really struggle if I had to take my make-up off at a make-up store, or could they just do it from your skin on your hands? I have just purchased some calamine lotion, as heard good things about it so will let you know how that goes :)
Alexandra87 when did you change to Estee Lauder double wear, did it break you out when you first changed over? I nearly bought that instead of the Revlon colorstay xx
In reply to Hi Both, I have been really by complex123
Yes they can definitely match it up on your hand...that's what I have always done as looking in the mirror at the makeup counter is too devastating. It absolutely does not make me break out...I feel like it actually improves my skin texture. I was using l'oreal foundation along with it, and realized that it was clogging my pores and making my skin much worse. I've switched to just using the estee lauder and applying a few layers, and my skin is much less bumpy/less clogged pores.
Yes please let me know how it works for you. I am trying to avoid the mirror so I'm not quite sure how much improvement it is doing. If you would like to start a separate email group I'd be open to it. It may help keep us in check ;)
Amy I think the email group would be good, how can I give you my email without putting it online?
I have oily skin so foundation becomes cakey and gooey looking on me after an hour or two. I use Clinique almost powder makeup spf 15. It looks great in photos too.
Here is my email if you would like to start a group katz0000@mail.com
Please watch my video "How I Beat Dermatillomania" on YouTube. My name is Paula. Let me know in the comments in the video if you have any questions:)
I watched your video and although I am not a religious person. You have given me hope to keep trying. I am in the middle of the skinpick program and feel it has helped and is helping. I still find myself relapsing and am getting very frustrated even though I am only in the middle of it.
Hello leavingthemirror, I have watched your video many times in the past trying to prevent myself from picking and happy for you that you are controlling it :) I will watch again later. I will also email you Amy19587 xx
I can understand that makeup is very important for you to hide scars and spots on the skin, but you don't need to put on double foundation. For better looking women normally does makeup, but forgets about the facts that if not done in a proper manner can spoil the look and can also damage the skin. Like foundation is very important for bright looking skin, but if overdone by using a lot of product can lead to uneven skin. So one can do makeup with tools like éponge silicone that is available at www.silidrop.com , many professionals use for a flawless finish of the foundation and get assured for a glamorous look by using minimum amount of product.
