wounds are HEALING and scars are FADING------> PLEASE READ!!!!!

I've mentioned calamine lotion on this site many times before but I want to scream it out for everyone to hear and to understand that IT REALLY DOES WORK! My skin has seriously never looked better. Being that I'm still in active recovery from CSP, I relapsed a bit yesterday and went to town on my chin. I was so angry with myself but instead of spiraling out of control, I just took a deep breath, washed my face with my antibacterial face wash and applied a thick layer of calamine lotion all over my chin and let it be. This morning, the wounds were already healing over and the swelling and inflamation had subsided immensely! After washing my face in the shower, I applied another thick layer and left it on for about 4 hours. When I washed it off, they again looked even better than when I first woke up this morning. My hopes are that they will be completely healed within the next few days... I will keep everyone posted. My chin aside, the rest of my skin looks INCREDIBLE! I've been using calamine lotion consistenly for the past month and the results are AMAZING! My scars have faded about 50% and my skin actually looks NORMAL. I don't feel so ashamed walking around without makeup on in front of my husband and kids, and when I am wearing makeup, my complexion has never looked better. To achieve the same results, you have to be consistent and use it every night. After washing my face at night, I apply a THIN layer (apply a thicker layer ONLY on the areas where wounds are present) all over my face and leave it on overnight. In the morning I wash my face and apply a zinc-based moisturizer before applying my makeup and then go about my day. I've done this for a month straight and I can honestly say that I am a believer. Calamine lotion has helped with healing my self-inflicted wounds, fading my scars, and evening out my overall skin tone. The best part about it is that it's dirt cheap. I spent $1.44USD on ONE bottle! PLEASE give this a try... I promise you won't regret it!

It's extremely difficult to avoid picking, but like you said, IT MAKES THINGS WORSE! I literally have to say this to myself every single day. I've noticed that the less I touch my skin, the less breakouts I have, ie. Fewer imperfections to pick at or obsess over. :) Maintain your self control and you will continue to experience positive results! XO

MY EXACT SKINCARE REGIMEN - IT WORKS!!! - Here are a list of products that have worked for me and are continuing to work for me these past few months: Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleansing Bar, Calamine Lotion, Equate's Original Clean Facial Cleansing Towelettes, Equate's version of Proactive's Purifying Cleanser, Equate's version of Proactive's Repairing Lotion, T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel Astringent, and Biore's Deep Cleansing Pore Strips. When I have wounded skin that is in need of healing, I wash my face in the morning with my Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleansing Bar and follow with a Calamine lotion mask. After 1-3 hours, I wash it off using my Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleansing Bar. After I pat my face dry, I apply a cotton swab of Witch Hazel all over my face. Once the Witch Hazel has dried, I apply my favorite SPF moisturizer (Image's Matte Moisturizer SPF 30) and follow with applying my foundation and makeup. The foundation I use is BareMinerals Matte Foundation and Original Mineral Veil with SPF. At the end of the day, I remove my makeup and clean my face using Equate's Original Clean Facial Cleansing Towelettes followed with a cotton swab of witch hazel to remove any excess makeup or oils left behind. Once the witch hazel has dried, I finish up by applying Equate's version of Proactive's Repairing Lotion. I found this to be the gentlest way for me to heal and treat my wounded skin AND prevent any new breakouts from forming. Once my skin is relatively healed, I discontinue use of the Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleansing Bar and replace it with Equate's version of Proactive's Purifying Cleanser. This cleanser is NOT harsh like Proactive's Purifying Cleanser. It makes my skin smooth and it's a gentle exfolliant for daily use on wound-free skin. After I pat my face dry, I apply a cotton swab of Witch Hazel all over my face. Once the Witch Hazel has dried, I then apply my favorite SPF moisturizer listed above. During this time, I also discontinue use of the Calamine Lotion so as not to dry my skin out. Once a week, usually on Saturday or Sunday, I will apply a Biore Strip to my nose to remove any blackheads I might have. I will usually do this after I've washed my face but before I apply the Witch Hazel. At night, I continue with the night-time regimen listed above. I swear by this method and my skin has truly never looked clearer and my husband has even made the comment that my skin has never looked this good with or without makeup in the 3 and half years we've been together. My skin tone is more even and my pores are smaller. The BP in the Purifying Cleanser and Repairing Lotion has really helped my skin to maintain a smooth, clear complexion and the Witch Hazel has really helped to minimize the size of my pores. I truly hope you all will give this skincare regimen a try. My skin truly has never looked better and miraculously my scars are fading as well. I've been following this particular regimen and using these products for 3 1/2 months now and I am continuing to experience positive results. I hope this helps! XO - newperspective

Hi newperspective,, one thing I'm concerned with is it very hard sometimes to get all the dried Calamine off of the wounds. I can't really scrub a wound because it will probably never heal if I do and also because its quite painful. I'm I doing something wrong? Thanks so much for your advise and truly caring!

newperspective.... You are one lifesaver. A God send. I literally prayed for help with this self inflicted wound I created. I was in a panic as I had to work and actually called in sick one day. I had a friend pick up the calamine. Wow. What a simple remedy but absolutely brilliant. Here I am, a healthcare professional and I would not have thought of calamine. It literally dried it up to point I could put small bandage on the following day and work. (not without some self consciousness but I muddled through looking like a little bit of a tool). Day 3 now, I'm off and home and can keep it open to air but more cetaphil soap last night (I was already using) and calamine. It is so much better. I just want to say thank you so very much. It was answered prayer as far as I'm concerned. You rock!

Hello hippiechick and welcome! Thank you so much for your kind words - they melted my heart and put a BIG smile on my face. :) I really appreciate that you took a moment to post how the calamine lotion worked for you. Posting/updating our results, whether they be positive OR negative, truly helps others decide whether or not the calamine lotion (or any other product) would be right for them. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to read that it has worked for you too. :) I hope you have a wonderful day off from work and here's to your skin experiencing a speedy recovery! XO

Newperspective, I appreciate you finding time to care about everyone else on here while you yourself are working through it. I think like anything else...prevention is key. But it sure is a blessing when someone has a pearl out there to help us out when we fail !! There is something comforting about seeing all the posts on here and knowing we share in this absolute weirdness. It has been a huge catalyst for me to look at the issue deeper though. I am a self evaluating person and I can look at any friend or my sons and say...."Don't pick"!!! Its good advice right?? So, um, why am I doing it? I am determined to be healthy and a good example. I think all of this stuff has roots. We need to get to the root of it and heal from the inside out. In the meantime, its great that there is the internet and a site actually dedicated to this. Hugs to you too my friend!

Hello Newnew and welcome! After you wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser (my favorite is Cetaphil's Antibacterial Cleansing Bar), pat your skin dry and use a cottonball to apply a layer of calamine lotion all over your face. Once that layer has completely dried, apply a second layer. Allow the second layer to fully dry before applying the third and final layer. Keep it on for 1-3 hours before washing it off. I hope this helps! I'm here if you have any other questions. :)

Hi i was just wondering, would caladryl work the same as calomine? i couldn't find any calomine at the Target nearby, so I was just wondering if I needed to go out looking again! Thanks so much!

Hello falling4autumn and welcome to the site! :) Caladryl DOES NOT work the same as Calamine. Calamine is far more effective. I buy the HUMCO brand of Calamine Lotion from Wal-Mart, but the Rite-Aid and Walgreens brands have the exact same ingredients as the HUMCO brand. I hope this helps! :)

If my wound is about as big as the tip of a q-tip, do you have any estimate of when it will heal by? I can apply the Calamine at night, but during the day I have school and such. Thanks so much again!!

It depends on how deep it is. If it's really deep then it'll take around 7 days to completely heal. If it's just a surface wound, I would allow 3-5 days. :) Try to relax and not stress over it too much - patience is key! :)
