Lanolin Heals Wounds! PLEASE READ
I am so excited to share this with you all. I suffer form dermatillomania and spend a lot of time trying to heal large, deep open wounds on my face from picking cystic acne. For about a week I have had 2 very deep spots, 2 very small spots and 1 healed spot that was still a red indent. I usually use Calamine lotion, which works if you can keep your fingers off of the spots, but I cannot. So, after browsing this forum, I saw a couple posts about Lanolin, but not many people commented on them. The few posts I saw had good reviews of the Lanisoh brand so I decided to try it. It is used to heal nipples of breastfeeding mothers, but it is also great for healing deep bloody picking wounds. After about 24 hours of constantly keeping the lanolin cream on (I used band-aids at night), my wounds are still red, but have sealed, meaning they are not longer raw, oozing, scabby or sore. And the small spots are basically gone! Don't get me wrong, the deep wounds are still very visible, but it's only been one day so I wasn't expecting them to be completely gone.
Here is a pros and cons list of Calamine healing and Lanolin healing:
Calamine Lotion:
Pros:
- works in about 5 days if you don't pick it off
- dried calamine lotion makes wounds less visible at first
- reduced redness of wound and surrounding areas very quickly
- very cheap (less than $2.00)
Cons:
- it's tempting to pick the dried calamine covered scab, causing a deeper wound and longer healing time
- if left alone, the dried calamine scabs do eventually become darker and visible
- requires reapplication several times a day
Lanolin (Lanisoh brand)
Pros:
- begins healing within a day (not sure how long it takes to completely heal, I will update you though)
- requires a couple applications a day and stays on fairly well
- keeps wound very moist, making it impossible to pick the area further
Cons:
- Wounds remain very red
- the cream is visibly greasy when on the wounds
- expensive ($12.00- but worth it!)
So there ya go, I hope some of you try Lanolin and tell me what you think. I wish all of you the best in your wound healing and are on the track to a pick-free life! Please ask questions or suggest any tips you have below.
