CSP Research Paper

Hey guys! I'm trying to kick this stupid stupid stupid habit as most of you are, and though I don't post on here, I've read most of the threads and find strength in the support you all give. That being said, I am appalled by the lack of resources we have on *effective* methods of treatment, be it medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, etc. I found what sounded like an awesome program created by psychologists that allowed you to document each time you pick, and it would send you a set of tips and treatment methods based on your data. They charge $30 per month. That includes maintenence months! I know expertise deserves reward, but people who are suffering from a disorder that makes everyday life difficult sometimes, its pretty cruel to charge money for something like that. I don't know, that's just how I see it. Anyway, I have to write a research paper on any topic, and I really wanna write it about csp. I want to raise awareness. I hope, too, that by writing about it and gaining more insight to its nature, it will help me to combat my own struggles against it. I have to pick an argument based on my topic and write a 10-12 page paper about it. I was thinking about writing about the best treatment methods to try, how to go about it, historical results, etc. But I dunno. Do you have any suggestions for research topics based on skin picking?

Hey thats a cool idea. Since you mentioned you are interested in awareness, I was thinking one possible research topic could be on media coverage. Ive noticed an increase of popular shows covering CSP, like that show Obsessed on TLC I think it was. You could even right about your views on how its being portrayed on T.V. and how you think it should be seeing as how you have first hand experience. I think there is a fine line between sensationalism and educational programming, and some of the shows and interviews I've seen don't always stick with the educational side. Anyway just an idea. I think its awesome you want to put the word out!

Its funny that you mention that because i was actually considering that as a topic too. I truly don't think there is enough awareness about it that is acurate because its not one of those afflictions that is always outwardly noticeable. Not all of us spend six hours in front of the mirror, and not all of us are unrecognizably scarred, but it is a terrible condition nonetheless. Still, its not a hollywood friendly disorder, id you know what i mean. Plus, when it is portrayed, like on obsessed, its more like a freak show attraction. Kinda sad.

Exactly and I hate that! In some ways its bad that its not hollywood friendly(since most common knowledge seems to be spread through movies and the E channel haha), but then again with the whole sensational/freak-show aspect maybe its better. I wonder, though, what the best way would be to get information out. I think people respond to individuals more than general information, so people who are brave enough to share their stories(maybe not on tv but in other ways) would make the most impact, idk. And you're right about it not being recognizable. I think for those of us who have bad scarring it looks like an accident or extreme acne(someone asked me if I was a burn victim once thaaat was fun), but there are a lot of people for whom it doesn't show as much. I used to be one of them. For years I had a few little red spots or scabs on my face all the time, then it changed. Anyway if you end up writing something it would be cool if you could post it on here!
