trying to quit? recheck makeup

Ironically, I was an Estee Lauder employee (i hid the picking well) What I think most people dont know is simply washing your face does not remove all make up, thus causing more breakouts. Think about it makeup is made for the purpose of staying on, the cosmetic companies pride themselves on long lasting, no smudging etc. You have to use makeup remover first then wash then moisturize. We are told that in training. Also they tell us there are many skin types oily dry etc. you must first evaluate what you are then match your moisturizer and facial cleanser accordingly. IE if you have Oily skin use an oil free products, Dry vs versa. DO NOT USE SOAP its too harsh. Also your skin sheds about every 28 days (most household dust is shed skin) so you do want to exfoliate. Thats just the skin care portion. Then comes the makeup. most people keep makeup way too long. makeup is a breeding ground of bacteria. Cosmetic companies have to sell it in reasonable sizes so you feel like your getting a value so just because it will last for years doesnt mean you should keep it that long. Every time you touch your face with that cosmetic brush it soaks up dirt and oil then you dip it in powder then you close your compact and store it in a unclimate controlled environment. Every time you touch foundation or anything you dip your finger in you transfer dirt oil bacteria into it, then you put it on your face which most likely has open wounds from picking. Believe me I am guilty of all this an I know better. I was taught how to care for my makeup. Im a hippocrite. Anyways hope this info helps someone who is trying to make the change. Im going to.

oh yea that was something else I forgot to mention the makeup sponges are terrible. even disposable cause your throwing away makeup. Sponges soak up makeup and you use waste alot. The best applicator is makeup brushes made with pony hair that you can wash daily. Plus you will get a smoother finish. The trick is you wash your hands first then apply a pea size amount to the side of your hand an use your hand as a pallet then your not contaminating the bottle. same way with powders, dump a little into a clean plate or your clean hand an use. pressed powders are more difficult q-tips work best, scratch off a little and then use the brush with the dust you scratched off. If you go to the makeup counter at any fine store you will see them do this, or at least they are supposed to. Because stupid people come in and stick their fingers in our testers to "touch up" as they are passing buy all the time and we were constantly disinfecting and throwing away testers. Uncontaminated makeup usually has a 2yr shelf life but most people keep it much longer. Mascara only has 6months or less.

Ya I noticed the sponges did waste a lot. I'll look into getting a brush! What is the best way to disinfect the brush? Soak in alcohol? soak the hair in boiling water?

makeup remover to remove the makeup that builds up, swirl it around in your hand. then rinse in warm water. Then let dry on a towel overnight, and twist/roll the handle between the palm of your hands when its dry to get the poof back in the brush. Just for fun you can wash it with shampoo and see all the makeup that comes out first, then do it again with make up remover and see how much more comes out. Then youll understand why makeup remover is so important. If you dont wash the brush everyday, Between each makeup application you can use a disinfectant spray like lysol, on the dry brush, use it lightly and wait for it to dry before putting it in the makeup. but I wouldnt use alcohol or boiling water because pony hair is alot like human hair and you will damage it. A good foundation brush will cost around $30 but it will last forever.
